The Tewkesbury based Silurian Choir is a Choral Society that welcomes singers of all ages and all levels of experience. We were formed in January 2002 so that we could share our enjoyment of singing. We are a group who want to encourage others by providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in which to enjoy and improve our singing abilities.
We meet on a Thursday evening at Tewkesbury Methodist Church where the very good facilities allow us to practise for the concerts that we perform each year. We choose works from both the greater and lesser known composers in order to bring variety to singers and audiences alike and have performed in various churches within the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire area including Pershore Abbey, Tewkesbury Abbey, Malvern Priory, St. Edwards - Stow on the Wold.
Our Musical Director is John Wilderspin, a talented musician from Worcester. We perform concerts with both organ and orchestral forces during our annual programme and John helps the choir to acquire the skills and knowledge to produce good quality performances for which we are gaining an excellent reputation.
We deliberately operate a policy of not requiring auditions for members who wish to join us. We are here to help and encourage everyone who has a voice with good pitch and tonal quality and who wishes to learn. Sight reading ability can be an advantage although not absolutely necessary.
So if you are interested in joining a good, highly motivated choir, just come along one Thursday at 7.30pm to 'look us over' and 'give us a try'. You will be made most welcome.
